Cedar Smudge Bundle

Cedar is first and foremost a medicine of protection. It is often used to cleanse a home when first moving in, inviting unwanted spirits to leave and protecting a person, place or object from unwanted influences. Cedar is often used in the sweat lodge ceremony.

Cedar is also one of the four sacred plants of the indigenous American Medicine Wheel and represents the Southern direction. The other plants contained in the Medicine Wheel are: White Sage representing the West, Sweetgrass representing the North, and Tobacco representing the East.

Smudging is a spiritual method to cleanse spaces of negative energy. Smudging has traditionally been a ritual of the Native Americans (Indians). It is now also a popular custom in Europe!

Key Benefits of  Cedar:

Cedar is woodsy and fresh. Both the wood (in the form of chips or shavings) and the foliage make effective smudges. Cedar is known to represent purification and protection as well as to revive the mind & spirit from sickness or exhaustion. It is also very slow burning and perfect for full home smudge rituals.

Cedar can be used to bless a house before moving in. It works to invite unwanted spirits to leave, protecting and purifying your home. The smoke of burning cedar is said to attract the good spirits and eliminate negative energies.

Properties: Renewal, Protection, Banishing Fear, Grounding

The tradition of Smudging:

Smudging finds its origin in the USA by the Native American tribes. They burned herbs such as white sage to cleanse themselves and their environment from negative energy. The believe is that negative energies (spirits) do not tolerate the smoke of these burning herbs. And that this acts as a purifying function that attracts positive energies or good spirits.

The Native Americans liked to use symbolism in their rituals. In this way they preferably let the four elements come together: water, earth, fire and air. They did this with a shell (water), earth (herbs), fire (burning of the herbs) and air (smoke).
