Chlorella vulgarisis a freshwater algae that is commonly supplemented by vegans (similar to Spirulina).
Chlorella is a potential food source because it is high in protein and other essential nutrients; when dried, it is about 45% protein, 20% fat, 20% carbohydrate, 5% fiber, and 10% minerals and vitamins. Chlorella appears to be a bioavailable source of both Iron and Vitamin B12, and may have other benefits.
Supplementation of chlorella appears to be in the range of 6-10g daily.
